A real-time .io battle game you play in the browser. Pick a vessel, collect orbs to grow, and fight other players in shrinking arenas.
The idea
A fast .io brawler you can play the moment the page loads: no install, no account needed to start. Pick a vessel, grow by collecting orbs, and outlast everyone as the arena shrinks. It also ships as a desktop app for people who want it on their taskbar.
How it works
The server is the referee. Every match runs in its own worker thread, simulating physics, combat, the shrinking zone and the bots about 62 times a second. Players only send their inputs; the server decides what happened and streams it back in a compact binary format, and the browser draws it with WebGL.
The hard parts
Making a real-time game feel smooth over ordinary home internet. JSON was too big and too slow, so the network protocol is hand-packed binary with delta updates, and the client interpolates between snapshots so movement stays fluid when packets arrive late. Server-side bots mean there's always a fight, even at 3 a.m.
What's next
More classes and arenas, and a Steam release is being planned.
What I built
- Real-time multiplayer server over WebSockets, with a compact binary network protocol
- Four playable classes, skill trees, cosmetics, leaderboards and friends
- Offline solo mode against bots, and full controller support
- Also ships as a desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux
Updates
Started FORMA-FIGHT, a real-time .io battle game that runs in the browser, with its own multiplayer server.
