Quiz Maker

Turn any YouTube video into a quiz with AI

Paste a YouTube link and get a quiz. The app reads the video's transcript, writes multiple-choice questions with AI, and saves them as a Google Form.

The idea

Teachers and students watch a lot of YouTube. Quiz Maker turns any video into a multiple-choice quiz in a few seconds, and can drop it straight into Google Forms so it's ready to hand out.

How it works

The server fetches the video's transcript and asks Google Gemini for questions against a strict JSON schema, so every answer comes back in a shape the app can use. The quiz can be taken on the page, or sent to a small Google Apps Script that creates a real Google Form in Drive, with no extra sign-in for the user.

The hard parts

AI output has to be reliable, not just good. The strict schema stops malformed quizzes, and the prompt makes the questions read like they're about the video (never "the transcript"). Running on AI free-tier limits meant building per-IP rate limits, a daily quota tracker and a free tier of three quizzes a day, with Pro subscriptions through Stripe.

What I built

  • Transcript fetching and question generation with Google Gemini
  • One-click export to Google Forms, or take the quiz on the page
  • Google sign-in and paid subscriptions through Stripe

Updates

  1. Launched Quiz Maker: paste a YouTube link and get a quiz, written by AI from the video and exportable to Google Forms.
